Planning, Design, and Redevelopment

Michelle Robinson’s expertise in transit facility development began while she served as Amtrak’s Manager of Station Planning and Design. In that position, she led redevelopment projects for many of the Northeast Corridor stations, interfacing with municipalities, private partners, and engineers along the way. She also created and promoted unique networks and processes for securing renovation funding, and co-authored several design-related texts. Currently, Amtrak continues to rely on her in-depth knowledge of station redevelopment by inviting her to present on the topic at their Great American Stations Foundation symposiums.

Michelle Robinson Architects has also contributed valuable expertise as a transportation architecture consultant on a variety of transit facility projects. As consultant to Delaware’s Dept. of Transportation, MRA served as project manager for the state’s Transportation Enhancement Program, which includes renovation and preservation of train stations, lighthouses, and other historic transportation buildings. Teamed with HDR, Inc., MRA has earned a national reputation as a space planning consultant for multimodal transportation facility design studies.

The firm also has significant and unique air transportation architecture experience. Teamed with SPG3 Architects, MRA has reviewed over 150 of PHL’s Concessions Program tenant fit-outs, and served as the concession developer project manager for 7 terminal expansion, connector, or hammerhead base-building construction projects. Through such work, MRA has developed a firm reputation for thoroughness to detail, sensitivity to project goals, and effective communication and challenge-resolution processes, and is often hired by national corporations to consult on projects from Dallas to Florida, Ohio, and Massachusetts. mra recently delivered operations and
ticket counter design drawings to USAirways as they expanded their services to three new locations in Florida and Mississippi.
